Our Story
Our story starts way back in 1967, two years before man first walked on the moon.
Our doors opened for the first time in Murchies Passage in Durban. Now we are open
in about 544 restaurants across the country. We have come a long way since being the first
sit-down restaurant to officially serve all South Africans…. and the journey is far from over.
But what a ride it has been. We are still your favourite meal on the road, that special
catch-up coffee shared with friends, the delicious relish to your favourite Wimpy burger,
and the famous breakfast to start your day. Numerous awards and decades later we are
still inspiring people to come together for shared moments over meals. Voted as the
franchiser of the year in 1995, and going viral in 2012 with our Braille campaign, we are
still the breakfast leaders and the South African favourite. But our story continues.
